Restaurant Development + Design: Perry’s Brings Texas Steakhouse Swank to Illinois

Houston-based Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille has opened its first unit outside of Texas, in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, Ill.

Built by Elmhurst, Ill.-based contractor ICI, the 11,000-square-foot restaurant sits adjacent to Neiman Marcus in the Oakbrook Center upscale shopping and dining mall. It provides seating for up to 350 guests and includes five private dining rooms that seat from eight to 80 guests, and patio seating for seasonal outdoor dining—complete with outdoor fireplace.

Design features in the main dining room include a towering wine wall that holds more than 2,000 bottles, dramatic lighting, a view into the exposed kitchen, and touches of amber, red and cobalt blue throughout. The restaurant’s bar area, named Bar 79, is island-style and offers live music Monday-Thursday evenings. Of the Oak Brook unit’s design vision, the company says, “By incorporating light, airy, modern touches to the various dining areas, Perry’s creates an environment that appeals to both men and women and whisks away the notion of a traditional stuffy steakhouse.”

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille’s second Dallas-area location set to open in time for the holidays

Perry’s Restaurants, a family-owned group of award-winning steakhouses, will open its 12th steakhouse location this November.

Perry’s Steakhouse will be located at Stonebriar Centre at Preston Road and SH 121 in Frisco. The new restaurant will accommodate 350 guests and include design features such as a towering wine wall, four private dining rooms, an island bar, main dining with glimpses of the kitchen, and an outdoor patio.

Famous for its selection of butcher-fresh Prime beef, Perry’s is also known for its unexpected steakhouse specialty – Perry’s Famous Pork Chop, a seven-finger tall chop that is dried, cured and roasted, then caramelized and topped with Perry’s signature herb-garlic butter. Perry’s is also home to Bar 79, which offers Social Hour featuring specially priced bar menu items, wines and martinis weekdays from 4-6:30 p.m. and Sundays from 4-9 p.m.

“From our roots as a meat market, we’ve grown to focus not only on great food, but also the experience of our guests,” said Chris Perry, founder and owner of Perry’s Restaurants. “At Perry’s, you can expect distinctive signature dishes carved tableside, flaming desserts prepared tableside, mixology creations made with ingredients fresh from the kitchen, and live music daily, all adding up to an atmosphere that is elegant, yet casual and welcoming.”

The desire for an ambiance that stands out from other steakhouses has led to a philosophy of design and architecture that is driven by each individual community Perry’s serves. By incorporating light, airy, modern touches to the various dining areas, Perry’s creates an environment that appeals to both men and women, and whisks away the notion of a traditional stuffy steakhouse.

“The Dallas area has truly embraced us, and we’re excited to expand to Frisco,” Perry said. “Our mission is to provide an experience that is both Rare and Well Done, and we look forward to serving this community.”

Perry’s Steakhouse
Like Pappas Bros., Perry’s has Houston roots; is that why it doesn’t get mentioned as often as Bob’s, Al Biernat’s, Nick & Sam’s, etc.? Which is silly because, in the steakhouse world, everyone does the exact same thing: Prime beef, shrimp cocktail, big Cab. Where a steakhouse makes its mark is the sides and desserts. At Perry’s, that means Sriracha Brussels sprouts (for a limited time) and a decadent butterscotch bread pudding topped with a house-made marshmallow.

Chicago Tribune: Dishes for Two on Valentine’s Day

The signature dish at this steakhouse chain (which reached the Chicago market in late 2013) isn’t even a steak (though the steaks are terrific here). It’s a monstrously large, slow-smoked pork chop, which arrives in all its 6-inch-tall glory before being deftly sliced for your convenience. Here’s a dish you can pass around a table of six without fear. Desserts are predictably hefty as well, and the tableside-flaming desserts (bananas foster, among them), while not marketed as shareable, have all the romance (and caloric impact) of a dessert for two. 5 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, 630-571-1808
